Dune sheoak is found on the harsh coastal sand dunes, growing up to 5 m tall, often in thickets. Its side branches tend to curve upwards. In winter and spring, male and female flowers are borne, usually on separate individuals. Male flowers are tiny, brown and prolific. Female flowers are red and develop into cylindrical cones once fertilized.
